February Mini-Challenge

I have had a few ideas floating around, such as doing a refashionista-type challenge, or menu-planning. I'm quite inspired by the other Challengers, but those ideas will have to wait.

My February Mini-Challenge is to attempt some home decorating. We simply never feel at home here in our 70's wog brick veneer home with mission-brown skirting and orange bottle-glass features. It doesn't help that we keep talking about moving back home to Shep or elsewhere. I want to feel like this is home. I hate that we have been here 6 years next week and it feels stark and empty and cold.

So, within the confines of the Challenge, I will be attempting to make our house a home with some creativity, some warm fabrics, and a sense of humour. Wish me luck.

BTW, like my new header and template? Making this blog a bit more homely too.

very funky header, I love it!

Do you rent or own? It is hard if you rent to make somewhere super homey. I have scored heaps of picture frames from freecycle and op shops and put art work from the kids in them and have them around the house and that helps.

Ta!

We own our house, so there's no-one to give us grief over the state of the house or lawn! LOL! Maybe I should start telling people we rent so they think our house looks like this because we *can't* do anything about it. Hehehe!

We have a whole box full of fun picture frames, I just need to get a "round-to-it" (oh dear!) to help me get arount to putting them up. I like the idea of putting up artwork. Thanks!

Soft surfaces make for a homely feel in my opinion. Lots of luscious homemade pillows, quilts, throws, rugs, etc...

I nearly went mad when we first moved in here - no curtains, no carpet...

Ok K, so if you have some of the items you describe and you're wanting to "long-term loan" them out in your nesting frenzy, send them here instead of to your sister, ok? LOL! Especially those hand-crafted quilts. ROFL!

I'm picturing me crochetting up some lovely throws, sewing some cushions which I actally like (*shock*), and a few frilly things too.

I'm looking forward to lots of ideas and links from you guys, so get your thinking hats on!

Hey I think that's a great mini-challenge. I reckon if you have a 70's decor house, you should embrace it. You can probably pick up some of those retro 70's fabrics with big circles and bright psychadelic colours from op shops, then you could use them to cover cushions. At garage sales you can sometimes find those 70's type chairs that are kind of like pods - cane ones that have 3 legs. Then there are all those orange stools with black legs (drool, drool). I think 70's decor can be pretty funky. Can't wait to see your redecorating!!!

Thanks ColdCloth. DH and I really like the idea of going with the 70's feel of the house insead of shying away from it. I'm in the process of making something out of vintage 70s fabric from my parent's house. Stay tuned...
